Stabbed in midtown, Chabad man was back on the street the next day to wrap tefillin

A young Chabad-Lubavitch man was stabbed in midtown Manhattan while doing religious outreach, then went straight back to work the next day on the same street where the attack happened.

The Forward and JTA both reported that Yosef, 26, who withheld his last name to protect his privacy, was assaulted in the Diamond District. He had been visiting businesses there to help employees wrap tefillin, the leather straps and small boxes that Jewish men traditionally wear during morning prayer as a sign of devotion, a practice central to Chabad outreach.

Back the next day

Within 24 hours of the stabbing, Yosef was back on the same block, continuing his rounds. He told JTA that "we need more mitzvahs in the world, we need more light." A mitzvah, in Jewish tradition, is a commandment or good deed.

What the reports say

Both outlets reported the story but the published summaries are brief. Neither report provided details about the attacker, any arrest, the severity of Yosef's injuries, or whether police have described the incident as a hate crime. Those facts are not yet available from the reports provided.
