Elbit wins contract to build IDF artillery training center worth up to $190 million
By Jewish Life Staff, . Jewish Life.
Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company listed on both the Nasdaq and Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, announced Monday that it had signed a long-term contract with Israel's Defense Ministry to establish and operate a training and simulation center for the Israel Defense Forces Artillery Corps, the branch responsible for cannon and rocket-launcher units.
How much the deal is worth
The two outlets that reported the announcement gave different figures. Haaretz valued the contract at 600 million shekels, which it converted to approximately $190 million. Globes, the Israeli business publication, reported the figure as about $170 million. Both agreed the contract runs for 15 years.
What the center will include
According to Globes, the facility will support the integration of two systems into the Artillery Corps: the ROEM, also known as SIGMA, a self-propelled artillery system, and the LAHAV, also known as PULS, a precision rocket launcher. Elbit will develop mission and driving simulators, training classrooms and dedicated facilities, the report said. The solution will incorporate simulation technologies, automation, AI-based functions and driver training tools. Elbit will also provide training, maintenance and support services across the contract period, Globes reported.
Haaretz described the agreement as covering instruction, maintenance and logistical support alongside the physical training facility.
What Elbit says the project will achieve
Elbit said the project would improve the operational readiness of artillery personnel, shorten qualification and training timelines, and raise training efficiency while reducing wear on operational equipment, according to Globes. The company did not provide an independent timeline for when the center would open.
